Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Inox Review
The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic is quite a popular pressure cooker with a nice clean look. Its simple to use, quiet and safe, and can last for decades!
Features:
The Kuhn Rikon Duromatic has a sleek and rather unique design, its coned top makes it look like a futuristic version of a Moroccan Tajine. It really couldn’t be simpler to use, no messing around with buttons or confusing settings, simple put the lid on and let her do her thing -Cook. The pot has marks inside to indicate capacity (image above), the 3/4 mark would be for regular pressure cooking, with the 1/2 mark for cooking foods which create a foamy froth such as beans, rice etc. The metal pressure regulator and its housing are extremely durable.
Safety:
The Kuhn Rikon is one of the safest pressure cookers out there because of its many safety systems. Although there is a slight issue, see below.
The pressure signal has a primary over pressure valve which activates and releases pressure should the cooker reach 17.4 PSI. Not far away from the primary valve is the secondary safety valve which comes into play if the primary becomes obstructed or stops working correctly.
Within the rim is a little nub which retracts when the lid is correctly fitted, if the lid is not correctly fitted the pressure cooker will be prevented from reaching any pressure.
When the pressure cooker reaches full pressure a self locking gasket expands and ensures the cooker’s lid is highly secure and maintaining pressure.
If all of the main safety features fail there are 2 vents that will come into play. Its now that the gasket will retract to allow pressure and very likely some of the contents to escape through metal cut outs on the lid. You as the cook should always have these pointing away from you while cooking. And this is where a slight issue arises, because the vents are situated on each side of the cooker you will need to have the cookers handle pointing outwards from the cooker top. Which for some people would be a problem, i myself like to have the handle pointing anywhere that isn’t outwards.
Cleaning:
According to the manual all parts of the cooker must be hand washed. The metal base of the cooker is designed to reduce the risk of foods becoming scorched and sticking to the base, however should this happen the quality of the base should allow you to wipe most food off with ease using a sponge.
Caution should be used when cleaning the valve, its made up of small parts which are easy to clean but could also get stuck in the sink drain, placing some sort of screen over the drain will solve this issue.
Accessories:
Every Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker comes with a rack as standard. This is useful when you are cooking delicate foods such as yoghurts and jams. A user manual is also included.

Conclusion:
Overall the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Inox is excellent, with its safety features and design it actually looks and feels safer. Its virtually silent and easy to use. It is also very energy efficient, it needs much less heat than other cookers to maintain pressure. If your looking for quality, consistency, and safety then this may well be the ideal pressure cooker you have been looking for.
